Epi-LASIK: Hello Perfect Vision, thanks to ClearVision

I finally took the plunge to book an appointment for LASIK. Writing this a week before my procedure- I am both apprehensive and excited at the same time.

Everyone who has done it will tell me that it is the “best investment” they have ever made, and a “life-changing” one.

I won’t lie to say I’m not worried at all, but I believe I’m in the good hands of Dr. Tony Ho and ClearVision. A little background about Dr. Tony Ho- he is well-established in the field of LASIK and also one of the first to set up a private, dedicated LASIK centre in Singapore since 2001.

ClearVision offers EpiLASIK, which unlike LASIK, involves no cutting of the cornea. It is is a safe, surface-based method of laser vision correction to correct your myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia (long-sightedness) and presbyopia. Since there is no cutting of the flap in epiLASIK, the structural integrity of the cornea is preserved. Hence, this does not weaken the cornea, preventing complications such as flap dislodgement, flap wrinkles and cornea ectasia from taking place.

Before the surgery…

Go for an initial eye examination to determine if you are suitable for the EpiLASIK procedure. It is an in-depth test to check for various aspects- cornea thickness, curvature, pressure, etc. Apparently I have a cornea thickness that is above average, hence it is more than optimal for EpiLASIK.  The test results are valid for about 4 months. On the same day of the eye consultation, an appointment with Dr. Tony Ho can be arranged to discuss and evaluate your results.

I’m a frequent contact lens wearer, i.e. I wear it for more than 12 hours a day. However, prior to the surgery, we’re advised to stop wearing contact lenses for 3 days. And post-surgery, we will have about 3-5 days of down time.

Taken after I did my eye examinations at ClearVision, to find out my suitability for lasik.

Very soon it is goodbye to glasses!

I’m excited to finally be able to do all the following once I recover from the procedure- wake up to clear vision (no pun intended), not have to pack an extra set of contact lenses when I travel, saving money on making new glasses or buying new contact lenses, exercise and swim freely without any visual aid, and the list goes on…

Stay tuned for my review of the EpiLASIK procedure at ClearVision!
